Virat Kohli and Phil Salt provided a decent start to RCB where Salt played the anchor role. Salt faced 16 balls and smashed 32 runs before the electric fast hands of MS Dhoni stumped him out.

Virat Kohli and Padikkal got good starts but failed to prolong their innings. Skipper Rajat Patidar played a crucial innings of 51 runs at a strike rate of 160. Jitesh Sharma added 12 runs in 6 balls and Tim David played a stellar cameo of 22 runs from just 8 balls.

All this led RCB to post a total of 196. It was a good surface to bat but there was certainly space for bowlers to do some magic.
Chennai had a disastrous start, losing two wickets in the second over bowled by Hazlewood. By the end of the powerplay, they were struggling at 30/3. The middle order faltered, with batters at positions 2, 3, 4, and 5 failing to reach double digits, adding to their woes.

Rachin Ravindra, who was working hard to keep CSK alive, chopped one to the stumps after his 41. Apart from him, Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni were the only two batters, who were batting without such struggles and that was never going to win them the game. MS Dhoni opened his arms towards the end but coming that late would never have helped CSK.
As a result, CSK lost the game by 50 runs. This was a big success for RCB as they won a game by such a huge margin when the set target was less than 200. Jos Hazlewood ended up with the best bowling figures of 4-0-21-3 along side the all-important innings by skipper Patidar.
