Vivo IPL 2021 DC vs MI: Delhi Capitals continues the winning run as they defeat mighty Mumbai Indians by six wickets.
Vivo IPL 2021: Defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) have been thrashed by the runner up of IPL 2020 Delhi Capitals in a low scoring thriller by six wickets and five balls to spear. Capitals registered their third win of the tournament playing four games and jump to second place just below Royal Challenges Bangalore (RCB) with six points.
Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first. Jayant Yadav was brought in for the conditions while Delhi Capitals made two changes. Shimron Hetmyre and Amit Mishra made it to the final11.
Mumbai Indians had an unusual start as Quinton de Kock was sent cheaply by Marcus Stoinis in the third over. Skipper Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav controlled the innings and scored 55 runs in the powerplays.
Both the batsmen were batting nicely however Young Avesh Khan dismissed Suryakumar Yadav (24 off 15) just after the powerplays in 6.6 over.
In the ninth over, When Rohit Sharma was nearing his half-century, danger man Amit Mishra produced a double-wicket over to get rid of Mumbai Indians skipper (44 from 30) and all-rounder Hardik Pandya for a golden duck.
Krunal Pandya and Kieron Pollard were sent back by the Delhi bowlers and Mumbai Indians were reduced to 84 for 6 in the 12th over.
Somehow Ishan Kishan and Jayant Yadav put a respectable total by scoring quick singles and doubles. Wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan scored 26 runs from 28 delivers before getting trapped in Amit Mishra’s wide yorker while Jayant Yadav collected 23 runs in 22 balls.
Mumbai Indians in their quota of 20 overs could only manage to score 137 runs in the loss of 9 wickets.
Chasing the small total, Delhi Capitals neither had a good start as Prithvi Shaw was caught and bowled by Jayant Jadav in seven runs.
Experienced Shikhar Dhawan and Steve Smith produced a good runs stand to put Capitals in a steady position to win the game. In-form Dhawan scored 45 from 42 deliveries while Smith amassed 29 balls 33.
To ease up the small chase, sensible batting from Shimron Hetmyre and Lalit Yadav ensured the win against Mumbai Indians with six wickets in hand.
Hetmyre scored quickfire 9 balls 14 while Lalit Yadav remained unbeaten on 22 from 25 balls.
Spinner Amit Mishra was handed the “Man of the Match” for his brilliant four wickets in four overs giving away just 24 runs.
