Delhi Capitals ropes in Ajit Agarkar as assistant coach for Tata IPL 2022: Former Indian speedster Ajit Agarkar is all set to take up the assistant coach’s role in the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Capitals (DC) in the fifteenth edition of the tournament. Agarkar will be a key figure in Delhi’s coaching setup who will work closely with the head coach Ricky Ponting.
He will also be a part of the leadership group which comprise Ricky Ponting (head coach), Rishabh Pant (captain), Praveen Amre (batting coach) and James Hope (bowling coach).
Ajit Agarkar will straight away join the bubble of the Capitals once he completes his commentary commitments in upcoming India vs Sri Lanka matches for three T20Is and two tests. The Sri Lanka tour of India will end on March 16 with the pink ball test in Bangaluru.
“Agarkar and Capitals have sealed the deal. The announcement will be made soon. Agarkar will get into the bubble immediately after the Sri Lanka series,” a source told TOI.
His assignment with Delhi Capitals will be his first stint as the coach of any team. Agarkar drew curtains to his international career in 2013, though he last played his international matches way back in 2007.

Since the end of his international cricketing career, Agarkar is widely active with the broadcasting of the matches and is seen doing commentary.
It is important to note that the appointment of Ajit Agarkar as Delhi’s assistant coach has come at a crucial time when team India is speculated to draft in a specialist pace bowling coach for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022. Ajit Agarkar and Zaheer Khan are two of the most probable options for India to bring in as the mentor of the team.
Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals (DC) have done a fantastic job in picking quality players at the recently concluded IPL 2022 Auction. Capitals managed to fetch the services of David Warner, Shardul Thakur, Mitchell Marsh, Kuldeep Yadav, Kamlesh Nagarkoti and various others.
On paper, Delhi looks like one of the strongest sides for the Tata IPL 2022, while the real test of these players will be carried out once the tournament commences. The reports suggest that the Tata IPL 2022 will begin on March 27.
