Dinesh Karthik to lead Tamil Nadu in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021.

Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy: 35 Years old wicketkeeper-batsman, Dinesh Karthik will lead Tamil Nadu in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021 starting January 10.

However, all-rounder Vijay Shankar is named as the Vice-Captain of the side.

Tamil Nadu will miss the services of the seasoned bowlers as Ravichandran Ashwin, T Natarajan, and Washington Sundar are occupied in the Australia tour.

Dinesh Karthik will lead the squad mix of youth and experience.

S Vasudevan heading the State Senior Selection Committee has picked the squad keeping in mind all the Covid-19 related issues and requirements.

Ashwin Christ returns to the squad after being away from the game due to injury. Sandeep Warrier who lately shifted to Kerala is also included in the squad.

Tamil Nadu is packed with some good spinners as well, M Ashwin, R Sai Kishore, and M Siddharth.

Murli Vijay Pulled out:

A few days ago experienced batsman Murli Vijay pulled out of the tournament citing some personal reasons while medium-pacer K Vignesh, who tested positive for Coronavirus was replaced by the all-rounder R S Jaganath Sinivas.

The chairman of selectors Vasudevan previously said the squad is a mix of both youth and experience and looks pretty much balanced.

Vasudevan also feels that the players will perform better in the upcoming tournament given that they all are well prepared.

In the 2018-19 Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy Tamil Nadu lost the finals against Karnataka.

The players are well prepared and I expect the team to do well in the Mushtaq Ali tournament. I am confident that they (team) will perform well,” he added.
