“Don’t want to miss any game for your country” says Rohit Sharma after getting rest for WI series: Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, who hasn’t been active in international cricket of late due to various reasons, says he doesn’t want to miss any game for his country. Rohit, while addressing the media on the eve of the T20I series opener against England, said that it’s hard to sit out and watch the team losing a match.

Sharma had contracted covid-19 on day two of the warm-up match against Leicestershire and was subsequently ruled out of the one-off test against England. However, he will be back in the action for men in blue in the 1st T20I against England in the Ageas Bowl, Southampton.

“It’s obviously disappointing to not come out as victors. The Test series was for India to win. That said, time will tell whether that loss will have any impact in the T20I and ODI series against England,” Rohit said on the eve of the first T20I at Southampton.

Talking about the uncontrollable things in the game of cricket, Rohit said: “It’s always good to be back playing for your country no doubt. You don’t want to miss any games for your country but certain things are not in your control. It’s beyond your control.”

“Now that I’m back, I am pretty excited and looking forward. Speaking about my interaction with VVS Laxman, I wanted to understand what was happening with the team all this while,” he added.

The Indian skipper further said that he is trying to understand the mindset of the players and get a complete overview of the environment of which he wasn’t a part.

Notably, Rohit will lead a fairly young team that toured Ireland and played two warm-up matches against the county teams.

“This is the first day I joined the team. They have been travelling to Ireland and played a couple of practice games as well. I’m trying to understand what sort of mindset the boys are in. It was just about catching up on things which I wasn’t part of.”

The 35 years old signalled that the final selection process for the upcoming showpiece event, ICC T20 World Cup 2022, will begin with the start of the England vs India T20Is.

“With one eye on the World Cup later this year, this is an important series for us. That said, every game for India is important right now and we want to get our job done in this series as well,” Rohit said.
