ENGvsIND: ECB approaches ICC to decide the result of the 5th called-off test match against India

ENGvsIND: England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) reportedly approached the global cricket body to resolve the dispute following the call off of the fifth test match at Manchester between India and England. The Dispute Resolution Committee (DRC) of the ICC is now on action to deduce the outcome of the final test match.

The covid 19 outbreak in the Indian camp gave jitters to the visitors and the cricketers showed their apprehensions to the ECB and the BCCI on playing. As many as five support staff of Indian management returned positive for the dreaded covid virus which led to players show their reluctance to play the match.

As ECB has already written to the ICC, the cricket board will press its case for the forfeiture of the final test match by the Indians which would help them to claim the insurance of the losses incurred and also gain the much-needed points to level the series. 

Meanwhile, the Indian players and cricket board has repeatedly stated that the team hasn?t forfeited the test match.

Both the participating cricket boards have agreed to re-schedule the test match next year. Tom Harrison, ECB CEO has, however, stated that the match will be played stand-alone and will not be part of the test series.

"Look, the one-off Test that BCCI has proposed will be standalone as Tom Harrison has said. Which means that it is not a part of this series. Therefore, if ICC decides that Indian cricket team which twice tested negative in RT-PCR was 'unable to field' the team due to Covid-19, then it will be acceptable non-compliance," a source in the know of things said.

However, if the verdict goes in India?s favour, ECB will have to bear all the losses of GBP 40 Million and no compensation will be given to the cricket board.

ECB will have fair grounds to claim compensation if it proves the case of forfeiture and the series will be adjudicated 2-2.

In the meantime, the IPL franchises have decided to bring their respective players to the UAE via charter flights.

Mumbai Indians Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav have already landed in the UAE while CSK and RCB players are soon expected to reach the destination.
