ENG vs BAN: Bangladesh whitewashed England 3-0 in the T20I series: With a 16-run victory in the final T20I of the series, Bangladesh secured a 3-0 series sweep over the World Champions England, owing to a magnificent 73 from Litton Das and a decisive over from Mustafizur Rahman.
Jos Buttler’s team chose to field first against Bangladesh after giving up the series last Sunday. Bangladesh scored 158 for two behind to opener Litton Das’ 57-ball 73. Before the host team operated in response, England had reached 100 for one in 13 overs with Jos Buttler and Dawid Malan at the crease.
Taskin Ahmed, a pacer, took two of the English’s wickets, and skipper Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman each added one. At 142 for six, England, the defending T20 World Cup winner, gave up, suffering their first T20 series whitewash (minimum 3-match series) in nine years.
However, the total could have been much lower if England had not been so poor on the field, with former captain Nasser Hussain describing it as “one of their poorest displays in a long time”.
We saw a couple of catches dropped from the England side which is not what they are known for! Rehan Ahmed and Ben Duckett dropped catches off the bowling of Jofra Archer, who was outstanding despite having subpar stats of 0-33 and will be happy to have played in all three T20Is after his injury struggles. With Das on 51, Duckett dropped a crucial catch which ended up costing him dearly. Chris Jordan eventually bowled Das out after a brilliant 73.
This is the second time when any team whitewashed England in T20 Series. Australia led by George Bailey became the first team to whitewash England when it registered a 3-0 win at home in early 2014. And Now Bangladesh succeeded in handling a clean sweep to the “Bazball” team in the T20I format.
Another milestone was achieved by Mustafizur Rahman as he became the 6th bowler in the history of T20Is to take 100 wickets.
