Pakistan were on a tour of England just after they wrapped up the Ireland T20I series 2-1. Pakistan looked strong when they played against Ireland but things were totally on the left side when they played against England. Let’s take a look at the summary of the PAK vs ENG T20I series.
Summary Of ENG vs PAK T20I series
Pakistan were scheduled to travel to England for a four-match T20I series and this series was meant to be their final rehearsal before the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Pakistan had just won the Ireland T20I series and were definitely high on confidence while England called their players back from the IPL 2024.
This time of the year is known as spring season in England, which means a lot of rain! And definitely, the rain played a spoiler in as many as two games of the series which is often frustrating for fans as well as players.
The first match was scheduled to be played at Headingley, Leeds. It was raining heavily on the match day, and no action was seen in the first match as the match was called off without the toss.
Birmingham had better weather on 25th May and we finally got a match. England, batting first, posted a good total on the board of 183 runs in their quota of 20 overs, and in response, Pakistan could only manage to put 160 on comparison and lost the match by 23 runs.
1-0 down in the series, Pakistan needed some more game time but clouds over Cardiff’s sky didn’t allow even the toss to begin with. The covers were not off the ground for a single moment and the third match was also called off without a toss.
Now, it was the time for the last contest in London. There were dark clouds over the head at Kennington Oval, but thankfully, we got a full match. Pakistan batted first this time and posted a low total of 157 runs. It seemed that the pitch has got some demons but when England came to bat, they were excellent on the crease. England chased down 158 in just 15.3 overs which shows the current levels of Pakistan Bowling unit.
England won the T20I series by 2-0 after the conclusion of the Pakistan tour of England 2024.
Team Performances in ENG vs PAK T20I series
Pakistan’s Performance
Pakistan have not found their balance, to be honest. They are still not confirmed with the bowling combinations, have a shaky middle order and the only thing that is working for them is a bit of runs from the Skipper and Iftikhar Ahmed.
They have too many options on fast bowling, out-of-form all-rounders and middle order. Shaheen’s magic isn’t working and Naseem got just one match and he went too expensive. Imad Wasim was given rest in the 4th T20I and he is proving to be one of the most important players in this squad for the T20 World Cup.
The Wicketkeeping guy Azam Khan has failed with the bat. He just can’t handle a pace of anything over 145Kmph. Jorfra Archer got him in the second T20I and here Mark Wood got him on zero. He also dropped a couple of catches behind the wicket and all these things must be considered by PCB and skipper Babar Azam in the World Cup. Overall, they were poor on the field and fans expect a better standard from them.
England’s Performance
England were on the top in the series. Jos Buttler and Phil Salt carried on their IPL forms and were good to give decent starts to their team. The middle order, however, wasn’t that convincing for the English skipper but we saw some glimpses of the good form of the middle order in the last T20I.
With Jofra Archer back to the side and Mark Wood cruising to the crease, England’s bowling lineup is definitely breathtaking with the pace. Adil Rashid also got a couple of wickets in the series and overall, they were riding the curves and always on the top of Pakistan team in the T20I series.
