England Cricket Board to review their Player’s social media following Ollie Robinson Controversy.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has decided to take a comprehensive note of English Cricketers social media handles to address past issues and remind them of their responsibilities. The step is taken after the recent controversy of Ollie Robinson, who posted racist and sexist tweets on his social media handles almost a decade ago.

Robinson made his Test debut on June 2 during the first test between England and New Zealand. As soon as he was given his test cap, his historic tweets began to resurface all over the internet. He was suspended from all forms of international cricket following the stir caused by his tweets over the internet. A probe into his issue is pending.

The 27-years old pacer issued his apology after the stumps of the Day 1 England vs New Zealand game and said “I am embarrassed due to my thoughtless and irresponsible” comments.

The ECB said its decision to review players’ social media “would not prevent further disciplinary action” in the future if required and that it was determined to be more inclusive.

“The review will be collaborative, and involve other individuals within cricket, including ECB administrators and coaches, as well as players,” the ECB said in a statement.

“The ECB will now work closely with the Professional Cricketers’ Association, Team England Player Partnership and England Women’s Player Partnership to agree Terms of Reference, identify independent expertise, and will support those taking part through education and training to complete the process.”

Another pacer Olly Stone replaced Robinson in England’s playing11 in the second game which is being played in Birmingham.
