ENGvsIND: Joe Root and company has reflected back drastically after the Lord’s test loss as England have defeated India in the third test match by an innings and 76 runs to level the five matches series.
The record of Headingley, team batting first has always lost, remains undisputed as the hosts have annihilated the Indians by a huge margin in the third Headingley Test match.
Team India were packed up for a scanty 78 runs in the first innings of the third test match. The English bowlers picked up wickets in timely intervals to keep India pressed up with that building pressure of early wickets.
The bowling from England was fantastic despite lacking a couple of premier pacers in the playing11. The unit as a whole performed outstandingly well to derail India from the winning track.
England chased down the target of 78 runs inside 30 overs on day one and the hosts went on to take a lead of a massive 354 runs at the end of English innings on day three.
English skipper Joe Root scored his third century (121) of the series, in as many matches, and the sixth of the season. Dawid Malan, who was drafted into the squad for the third test match, scored 70 runs to play his part. Openers Rory Burns and Haseeb Hameed also played their role in taking England off to a gigantic lead.
India opened nicely in response to the mammoth total from the opposition, however, soon the unsettled looking KL Rahul was sent back to the dressing room. The opening partnership was cracked by Craig Overton as he picked up KL Rahul for 8 runs.

Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara kept the hold of the game as the two stalwarts stitched near about 100 runs partnership for the second wicket. Once again Rohit failed to find his triple-figure score in the overseas test as he bowed down after scoring 59 runs.
Virat Kohli and Pujara picked up the pace of the game pretty quickly on day three and amassed good runs for the team before the stumps. The two remained unbeaten on day three as India scored 215 runs in the loss of two wickets.
Team India’s batting collapse on day 4:
English pacers bowled beautifully with the new ball on day four as they picked up the rest of the Indian batters inside the first session to wrap up the third test match.
Pujara was the first fish to depart on a penultimate day. He scored well-structured 91 runs before heading out while Virat Kohli will have to wait a little bit more for his 71st century. The Indian skipper was also dismissed quickly after his half-century (55 runs).
The remaining 6 wickets fell in quick succession as England got a comprehensive hold of the match-three off the five games test series.
Ollie Robinson picked up five wickets in the second innings of India while Craig Overton picked up three. Ace pacer James Anderson and spinner Moeen Ali got one apiece.
Robinson has been adjudged as the ‘Player of the Match’ for his fantastic display of bowling. The speedster picked a fifer in the second innings while two wickets in the first innings.
With the win, England levelled the five matches India vs England test series by 1-1. The fourth test match will begin on September 02 at Kennington Oval, London.
England defeated India by an inning and 76 runs in the 3rd Test match to level the series.
