England defeats Pakistan by 5 wickets to win T20 World Cup 2022 Final: Jos Buttler and his men have been crowned as the World T20I Champions after the Englishmen hammered Pakistan by five wickets in the recently concluded final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. Premier all-rounder Ben Stokes scored winning runs off Mohammad Wasim’s bowling for the team as celebrations begin in the English dressing room.

With another World Cup crown under their belt, England now have become the only side to be the ODI and T20I World Champions at the same time. England won the 2019 ODI World Cup under the leadership of Eoin Morgan, defeating New Zealand in the epic final, and now they have tormented Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2022 final by five wickets.

In pursuit of 137 runs total at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), England dealt an early blow in the form of inform Alex Hales wicket. Shaheen Shah Afridi was once again the man who trapped the fish. However, England’s grit helped them overcome the loss and soon came back to track.

Ace all-rounder Ben Stokes remained unbeaten at 52 runs in 49 deliveries and took his side to yet another memorable victory. Other notable contributions were Jos Buttler (26 runs off 17 balls), Harry Brooks (20 runs 23 balls) and Moeen Ali (19 runs off 13 deliveries).

Earlier in the innings, Pakistan had a timid opening. Following his brief stay in the middle, opener Mohd Rizwan was sent back by Sam Curran. Soon Mohammad Harris, who was promoted up the order to have a go from ball one, also departed after scoring 8 runs.

Shaan Masood and Babar Azam stitched a good partnership, but the Pakistani skipper Babar Azam was caught and bowled by Adil Rashid. Later in Pakistan’s innings, Mohammad Nawaz played a quickfire knock of 20 runs from 14 deliveries to take the total to 137 runs in 20 overs.

Sam Curran scalped three wickets and has been adjudged as the “Player of the Match” in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 Final. The young all-rounder has also bagged the ‘Player of the Tournament award for his sublime performance in the tournament.

“I don’t think I should be getting this, I think Ben Stokes should get this (PoTM.). Big square boundaries, so I knew my into-wicket bowling would work with big boundaries. I mixed it up with slower balls to make it tough for the batter. Incredibly special. We all look up to him. People question him but he’s incredible. Amazing crowd. I wanted to be adaptable coming into the tournament. I haven’t bowled much at death before. Needed to be good with the bat too. How good is it to be a World Champ (smiles)!” said Sam Curran in the post-match presentation.
