England Cricket Team has found themselves in the middle of nowhere in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. They are in the spot of bother after their recent loss to South Africa in the Super 8 stage of the tournament on Friday (21st June).

England started the Super 8 stage of the tournament on a high. They thumped West Indies in their opening game and boosted their NRR. But after that a loss against South Africa has put them in a spot of bother and their qualification for the semi-final looks bleak now.

South Africa registered their second consecutive win in the Super 8 stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. They defeated England by seven runs at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia in a Group 2 encounter.

With the kind of performances South Africa has displayed, they made the route difficult for England. The Jos Buttler-led side has just one game left against the United States of America and it will be a decisive game for the defending champions in the T20 World Cup 2024.

For England to qualify they need to beat the United States of America by a comprehensive margin. If they scored 160 runs while batting first then they need to make sure that they beat the opposition by 10 runs. And if they are chasing, they need to win by at least an over to spare.

Here’s England’s qualification scenario:

– Assuming batting first score of 160.

– Beat USA by 10 runs.

– Beat USA by at least an over to spare.

Looking forward to the next one – Jos Butter after the loss against South Africa

England captain Jos Butter opened up about the loss against South Africa in the Super 8 stage. He said that Quinton de Kock’s innings was the difference between the teams. While talking about the defeat, he explained:

“Powerplay. Quinton came in with a lot of intent and we couldn’t quite match that. We pulled it back and were happy to chase that target but his innings were the difference. We came back well with the ball. Brook and Livingstone had a fantastic partnership to get us close and even look like favourites but credit to South Africa for closing out the game.

Valuable. He’s very understanding that you don’t get to face many balls in T20 cricket at that position. He’s hitting the ball well in the nets and backing himself. Looking forward to the next one,” he concluded.
