English opener Jason Roy ruled out of T20 World Cup 2021 due to a calf injury.

T20 World Cup 2021: In a heavy blow to England, excellent opener Jason Roy has been ruled out of the remaining matches of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021 owing to a calf injury. ECB has subsequently roped in James Vince as his replacement for the tournament.

Roy sustained a major blow on his calf during England’s last match against South Africa. While taking a run, Roy picked up the injury and was in extreme pain and was not even able to walk back to the dressing room, retired hurt.

“I’m gutted to be ruled out of the World Cup. It is a bitter pill to swallow,” said Jason Roy after the development.

In a statement, he further cleared that he will remain back with the team to support them.

“I will be staying on to support the boys, and hopefully, we can go all the way and lift that trophy. It has been an unbelievable journey so far, and we have to continue expressing ourselves and concentrating on us.

“The rehab has already started, and even though I’ve torn my calf, I’m going to give myself the best chance of being ready for the T20 tour of the Caribbean at the start of next year.”

An injury to Jason Roy could turn out to be disastrous for Eoin Morgan-led England as it can possibly lead to imbalance to the side. Though, England can promote wicketkeeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow up the order alongside Jos Buttler and bring Sam Billings or James Vince in the pace of Bairstow.

It will be interesting to see, how English management addresses the changes in the playing11 after Roy’s exit. England will face New Zealand in qualifier 1 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 in Abu Dhabi on Thursday, November 10.
