Experienced Afghan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman joins the Mumbai Indians squad, replacing injured Allah Ghazanfar
Mumbai Indians, the highly successful franchise in the IPL, faced a surging blow with the newly auctioned Allah Ghazanfar ousted from the IPL 2025 owing to his injury. Mumbai’s hopes were pinned on the rising Afghan spinner, and now another Afghan has replaced him after his injury.
The Mumbai team has reported to include Mujeeb Ur Rahman, the spinner who went unsold in the IPL auction after having played several matches for the Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
The Mumbai Indians now had to bring him in exchange for the 18-year-old Afghan rising talent who was bought for INR 4.80 crores. Ghazanfar sustained an injury during the Afghanistan tour of Zimbabwe and was declared to miss the upcoming IPL season as well.
Mujeeb Ur Rahman has played 19 matches in his IPL career and went on to pick 19 wickets as well, with his best season back in 2018, when he also appeared in the most number of matches.
Mujeeb and Santner to form the MI spin duo?
If the Mumbai Indians decide to form a formidable spin attack, then they will include the likes of both their spinners, experienced overseas campaigner Mitchell Santner, who has had some experience playing for the Chennai Super Kings as well.
Mitchell Santner might be leading the MI spin attack, but Mujeeb might be an asset, especially if Bumrah misses the IPL, considering he can come in handy with the new ball, as unlike other spinners, Mujeeb is often seen bowling in the powerplays.
Now Mujeeb might be an asset for the same, while he is surely not MI’s first-choice spinner with Santner in the side.
