The FIFA World Cup 2022 will shortly begin in 3 days’ time. There are always interesting rules in football. The offside line rule is something that has always been interesting. Similarly, goal-line technology and VAR are things that have revolutionized the game. Here are five of the more recent rules that will be implemented at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. These rules will be implemented to improve the quality of the game:
FIFA World Cup 2022: 5 substitution rules:
As opposed to making only 3 substitutions throughout the game, the teams can now make 5 substitutions but these substitutions need to be made in a pre-defined time space. This will help to keep the players fresh and will also help the managers to make tactical changes. Having more options on the plate gives the manager more freedom to express his ideas. Managers can also make key substitutions before a penalty shootout or they can change the goalkeeper and so on.
FIFA World Cup 2022: Goal-Keepers need to have a foot on the line during penalties:
This rule has been featured in many leagues as well. So, it is no surprise that it has also been adopted by the FIFA World Cup 2022. The rule says that the goalkeeper needs to have at least one foot on the line before a penalty kick.
FIFA World Cup 2022: 26-man Squads:
The biggest change happens to be in the number of players that a nation can get. The length of the squad has just kept increasing. It was 18 earlier, then it increased to 23, and today we are seeing 26-man squads being announced. This means that in addition to 11 players that play on the field, every manager has 15 more players to choose from. This benefits teams like France who have a deep squad and many players that rules at a single position.
Semi-Automated offside rule:
The offside rule is always something that is under speculation. This time around, technology will be used to make these calls. Earlier offside calls were taking 70 seconds but with the help of this that time has narrowed down to 20 seconds only. This technology is similar to goal-line technology and it is an upgraded version of VAR.
Female Referees:
This is the first time that we will be seeing female referees at a men’s world cup. Basically, over the years it has been vice versa. Male referees have always been an integral part of Women’s football but this time around at the FIFA World Cup 2022 female referees will be back in business.
