Glenn Maxwell tested covid positive, sent into isolation: The Big Bash League (BBL) season 11 has plunged in another covid scare as the skipper of Melbourne Stars, Glenn Maxwell has tested covid positive in the rapid antigen test, the franchise confirmed.

On Monday after Melbourne Star’s defeat to Melbourne Renegades, Maxwell underwent a routine antigen test and returned covid positive. Currently, the all-rounder is under isolation, waiting for the result of the RT-PCR test.

“Maxwell returned a positive rapid antigen test after the game against the Melbourne Renegades and has since undertaken a PCR test and is currently isolating,” a Stars statement read.

“Melbourne Stars will provide an update once the result of the PCR test is known and ask everyone to respect Glenn’s privacy at this time.

Glenn Maxwell is the latest to contract the virus, earlier, 12 other big players of Melbourne Stars have been infected with the virus along with 8 support staff members.

The rotten luck of Stars forced the franchise to field a depleted side in its last two BBL fixtures. The situation was worse as the franchise had to field a local club cricketer, who earned his maiden call-up.

However, amidst the continuous gloomy news from covid, Melbourne Stars would be happy that around 10 of their big players will be available soon. It must be noted that Adam Zampa, Marcus Stoinis, Nathan Coulter-Nile and seven other players will be done with their seven days isolation before Melbourne Star’s next fixture on Friday.

It is also noteworthy that six English players, on Sunday, competing in the BBL 11 were forced to board a flight and leave Australia owing to the rapid increase in the covid toll. The English cricketers will isolate themselves ahead of England’s upcoming T20I series against West Indies.
