Punjab Kings (PBKS) sealed the top spot in the points table of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. They beat Mumbai Indians (MI) by seven wickets at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Monday (27th May) and booked their berth in the Qualifier 1 of the tournament.
Asked to bat, Mumbai Indians had a decent start to their innings as openers Ryan Rickelton (27) and Rohit Sharma (24) added 45 runs for the first wicket. After that, Suryakumar Yadav (57:39b) continued his golden form with the bat and batted till the last over.
Even though Mumbai Indians lost wickets at regular intervals, Suryakumar ensured that he kept his team in the game. Skipper Hardik Pandya (26) supported him well as they added 44 runs for the fifth wicket.
In the end, Naman Dhir (20) played another brutal cameo that powered Mumbai Indians to a total of 184 for seven.
PBKS lost Prabhsimran Singh early in the chase, but Priyansh Arya (62) and Josh Inglis (73) took the game away from Mumbai Indians. The Arya-Inglis duo added runs for the second wicket and 109 runs for the second wicket.
However, both got out towards the end but it was PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer (26*) who decided to take the responsibility and took his team home with seven wickets in hand. With the loss, Mumbai Indians now will be playing in the Eliminator.
