Harmanpreet Kaur ( born 8 March 1989) is an Indian cricketer who captains the India women's national team in all formats. She plays as an all-rounder. In 2018, she became the first woman for India to score a century in a T20 International match. Kaur is the only Indian woman cricketer with more than 3,000 runs in T20Is. She is one of only three Indian women to have scored more than 3,000 runs in Women's ODI. In 2019, during the series against South Africa, she became the first Indian cricketer to play in 100 international Twenty20 matches.
Star batsman Harmanpreet Kaur Bhullar, who made a name for herself in Indian cricket, was inspired by cricket when she saw her father's passion for the game. Born on 8 March 1989 in Moga, Punjab, Harmanpreet's father Harmandar Singh Bhullar was a volleyball and basketball player.
She used to go 30 km away for practice. Harmanpreet thanks her childhood coach Kamaldish Singh Sodhi for the position she has achieved in her life today. Harmanpreet Kaur's coach had seen her passion for cricket since childhood, after which he thought of forming a women's team.
Harmanpreet was always keen to learn cricket as a child. She joined the Gian Jyoti School Academy, 30 kilometres from her residence in Moga, where she trained under Kamaldesh Singh Sodhi.
In March 2009, she made her ODI debut aged 20 in a match against Pakistan women's team played at Bradman Oval during the World Cup. In the match, she bowled 4 overs conceding 10 runs and also caught Armaan Khan off Amita Sharma.
In June 2009, she made her Twenty20 International debut in the ICC Women's World Twenty20 against England women's team at County Ground, Taunton, where she scored 8 runs off 7 balls.
Her ability to hit the ball a long way was seen when she played quick-fire innings of 33 against England women's in a T20I game played in Mumbai in 2010.
Kaur's Bigbash Journey
In June 2016, she became the first Indian cricketer to be signed by an overseas Twenty20 franchise. Sydney Thunder, the Women's Big Bash League champions, signed her for the 2016–17 season.
In September 2021, she was signed by Melbourne Renegades for the 2021–22 Women's Big Bash League season.
