Has the RCB vs LSG match also been cancelled? Updates on the fate of IPL 2025 awaited from the BCCI
After the IPL match between PBKS and DC was called off midway at Dharamshala, concerns have risen over the fate of the RCB vs LSG match scheduled at Lucknow on the 9th of May.
India is not in the best of phases, as currently, there has been an ultimatum issued between India and its neighbouring nation, Pakistan. The two countries have shared a gruesome past, and recently, the cross-border tensions have risen prominently.
The recent outrage from the Indian government and armed forces has been the retaliation for an attack on non-Muslim tourists at Pahalgam on the 22nd of April, 2025. This has been designated as the second biggest civilian attack in India, after the 2008 Taj Attack in Mumbai.
26 civilians were killed by five armed militants from the Pakistan-based terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba, who took responsibility for the attack. This marked a huge threat to humanity and would also affect the religious harmony between Indian Hindus and Indian Muslims within different parts of the country.
What caused the hindrance midway in the Indian Premier League?
The tension between the two nations might have begun from a treacherous crime in the lands of Kashmir, but Indian forces attacked on sight in Pok and around the LOC, as mentioned by sources on terrorist camps of Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed. The Pakistani army, on the other hand, has started to fire missiles on Indian territory, targeting civilian areas in Punjab, Haryana, Kashmir, Jammu and Rajasthan.
As a result of this, due to increasing security concerns, the ongoing match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals, the 58th match in the IPL at Dharamshala, had to be called off midway. The fate of the match would be decided by the BCCI sometime later.
Will the RCB vs LSG match also be cancelled?
As of now, air attacks have been sighted on the cities of Jammu & Kashmir, Pathankot, Amritsar and such neighbouring areas. Blackouts were arranged, including the stadium of Dharamshala, and the crowd was evacuated safely.
As suggested by reports from the BCCI sources and the Times of India, the support staff, players, broadcasters, team and all were moved out of Dharamshala with special train arrangements.
Concerns have been raised on whether the upcoming matches in the IPL from the 9th of May will be held any further or if something else has been planned by the BCCI’s IPL governing committee.
The match on 9th May between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Lucknow Super Giants is scheduled at Lucknow, the city that is under a red alert due to the ongoing Operation Sindoor. Despite being under red alert, the city is calmer, but considered a highly sensitive area, the board will be closely monitoring the developments around the city before showing the green flag.
As of now, the IPL chairman, Arun Dhumal, shared with PTI that the IPL matches will go ahead as planned while monitoring the situation.
“We are reviewing the situation right now. It is an evolving situation. We haven’t received any directive from the government. Obviously, the decision will be taken keeping all the logistics in mind,” Dhumal told PTI.
The Diplomatic War between India and Pakistan had long begun
The attack issued a warning for civilians across the nation, as tensions rose between the two rivals possessing a history of 78 years. India accused Pakistan of backing cross-border terrorism and suspended the Indus Water Treaty, expelled Pakistani diplomats and also closed the borders.
Pakistan, in turn, denied such accusations and suspended the Shimla Agreement, a peace treaty signed after the 1971 Indo-East Pakistan War. India also restricted any form of trading with Pakistan and closed their airspace for Pakistan Airlines.
