Huge fight between Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir over selection; reason for delayed squad announcement revealed
The tensions between Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir are increasing day by day as the duo were involved in a massive argument. As per the reports in Dainik Jagran, it is learned that both weren't on the same page related to the selection for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
The India squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 was announced on Saturday (18th January). The press conference of the skipper Rohit Sharma and selector Ajit Agarkar was scheduled to take place at 12:30 PM IST, but it took place two and a half hours later than the scheduled time as the media was asked to wait.
However, it was revealed, as per the reports in Dainik Jagran, that the reason behind the delay was there was an argument between Gautam Gambhir, Rohit Sharma and Ajit Agarkar over some of the players. The major talking point was the vice-captain of the team.
Both Rohit Sharma and Ajit Agarkar wanted Shubman Gill as the vice-captain while Gautam Gambhir wanted to give vice-captaincy to Hardik Pandya. However, the coach and captain were adamant about making Gill deputy, and hence, the decision was taken in favour of Gill.
The other argument they had was between Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson. Gautam Gambhir was in favour of the latter while Rohit Sharma and Ajit Agarkar wanted Rishabh Pant. They didn't listen to the coach, and hence, both Gill and Pant were picked in their roles on demand of skipper and selector.
Apart from these selections, what was the surprise was India named just three pacers in the team. Mohammed Siraj was dropped while they went in with four seamers: Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav, who will be the wrist spinner.
