ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Axar Patel misses 4 HUGE milestone with Rohit Sharma's dropped hat-trick catch

ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Axar Patel misses 4 HUGE milestone with Rohit Sharma's dropped hat-trick catch

India spinner Axar Patel has been right on the money with the ball in the ongoing game against Bangladesh in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Dubai International Cricket Stadium is hosting the second game of the eight-nation tournament.

India has been all over Bangladesh with the ball after they were put into the field first. One of the major reasons behind that has been all-rounder Axar Patel, who has oozed his class with the ball and has made Bangladesh batters look clueless.

Axar Patel's best came in the 9th over when he made twin strikes on the two balls and was on the hat-trick. The all-rounder was on the song and found the edge of Jaker Ali's bat on the hat-trick ball but wasn't supported well by skipper Rohit Sharma, who was in slips.

Rohit Sharma dropped a simple catch as Axar Patel was denied off the hat-trick. However, the skipper was quick to apologise and even looked frustrated with himself as he was seen hitting the ground multiple times in agony.

However, had Rohit Sharma taken the catch, Axar Patel would've scripted history and would've entered his name in record books. Here are the milestones that Axar Patel missed due to Rohit Sharma's dropped catch:

Axar would become the first player with a hat-trick on Debut in ICC ODI events
Axar would become the first Indian spinner to take a hat-trick in men's ICC events
Jerome Taylor now remains the only player to take a CT hat-trick. (vs AUS in 2006)
Axar would become the first Indian spinner with an ODI hat-trick after Kuldeep Yadav (who did it twice)

Overall, Axar Patel had a decent outing with the ball in the game against Bangladesh in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The all-rounder bowled 9 overs and returned with the figures of 2/43. He also bowled one maiden over in his spell.
