ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Points Table after the Dominating Win for the New Zealand against Pakistan in the Opener
In the opening match of the Champions Trophy 2025, hosts Pakistan and New Zealand faced each other at the National Stadium in Karachi. The Blackcaps started the tournament with a win by defeating the Men in Green by 60 runs in the first match. With this win, New Zealand is at the top of the Group-A points table with two points.
Batting first, New Zealand scored 320 runs in the stipulated 50 overs. For the Blackcaps, opener Will Young scored 107 runs in 113 balls with the help of 12 fours and a six, while wicketkeeper-batsman Tom Latham also scored a century. Latham scored an unbeaten 118 runs in just 104 balls with the help of 10 fours and three sixes.
Glenn Phillips played a major role in reaching the target of 320 runs, Phillips played an explosive innings of 61 runs in just 39 balls with the help of three fours and four sixes.
Pakistan's bowling performance was not impressive on the home ground (Karachi), Haris Rauf took two wickets for 83 runs in 10 overs, Naseem Shah took two wickets for 63 runs in 10 overs and spinner Abrar Ahmed got one wicket.
While chasing the target, host Pakistan was all-out for just 260 runs. The contribution of the top order batsmen in the batting order was not very significant. Babar Azam played a slow innings of 64 runs in 90 balls. Captain Mohammad Rizwan scored just three runs while Saud Shakeel who came to open the innings could score just six runs. In the middle order, Salman Agha and Khushdil Shah showed positive intent but it was not enough for the team to win. Salman scored 42 runs while Khushdil scored 69 runs.
In the bowling department, New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner and William O'Rourke took three wickets each, Matt Henry took two, while Michael Bracewell and Nathan Smith took one wicket each.
