ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 Schedule to be announced as soon as possible says ICC CEO: The International Cricket Council (ICC) Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Allardice confirms that the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 schedule will be announced “as soon as possible”. The full schedule for the event, which is set to be held in October-November in India, will be announced in the meantime.

It’s important to note that, Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary, earlier announced that the full schedule for the 2023 World Cup will be announced during the ICC World Test Championship 2023, however, the plan now seems unlikely to be executed.

In an interview with BBC’s Test Match Special, Greoff Allardice didn’t reveal the actual dates or timeline for the release of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 schedule, and it is understood that the schedule might not be announced until next week.

Notably, the fixtures for the 2019 World Cup were announced 13 months prior to the tournament while the schedule for the 2015 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand was revealed 18 months before.

It can be assumed that the delay in announcing the schedule of the World Cup 2023 might be due to the uncertainty from Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) over its participation in the tournament. Pakistan had earlier demanded to adopt a hybrid model for the World Cup, later it warned ICC of not competing at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium with India unless it’s a knockout fixture.

“I think even today (Wednesday) we might be receiving the schedule from the hosts, and we’ve just got a bit of consultation to do with all the participating teams and the broadcasters,” said ICC CEO Geoff Allardice. “Then we’ll be publishing that as soon as we possibly can.”

He indicated that ICC works with the host country and performs certain checks and balances to deliver the competition of the highest quality.

“When we put on events, we very much work hand in hand with the hosts. And in some places, there’s a lot of consultation that needs to take place, both within the cricket system and with governments, etc. There’s a lot of responsibility on a host to deliver a good event, and they’ve got to go through the right checks and balances.”

Pakistan a reason for delay in Cricket World Cup 2023 Schedule

Allardice refused to open up when asked whether Pakistan’s reluctance in regards to play in India had any relevance to the delay in the announcement of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 schedule.

“Until I see the schedule… I’m waiting, and I’m hoping that I’ll see something in the next day or two on that,” he said. “Our events team is very experienced at putting on cricket events in all different countries, and you control what you control.

“And I think that’s the approach that our team is taking, and they’re working on the things that they can progress for the event. The moment we have that information, we’ll be pushing on it at a rate of knots.”
