Darren Sammy: The ICC ODI Qualifiers are all set to take place in June- July this year. The playoff round has been done and dusted and two teams USA and UAE are through to the main qualifiers. The ODI qualifiers will take place in June and July 2023 in Zimbabwe. Along with USA and UAE, West Indies, Netherlands, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, Scotland, Oman, Nepal and Ireland will play in the qualifiers.
ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers: West Indies appoint Darren Sammy as head coach ahead of the World Cup
West Indies have roped in two-time T20 World Cup-winning skipper Darren Sammy as the head coach for the white-ball team ahead of the qualifiers. The Carribean side will be heading to Zimbabwe to play the qualifiers. Out of 11 teams, two will qualify for the World Cup in India.
Apart from Darren Sammy, West Indies also appointed Andre Coley as the head coach of the Test side. He will also coach the West Indies A Team. The appointment of Sammy as a coach will be a massive boost for the team, considering the kind of player he was and the kind of impact he had as the skipper for the team.
This will be the first time, Darren Sammy will coach an international team. He has a fair bit of experience as a coach as he has performed it in various domestic leagues across the world and has been quite successful as well. With West Indies going through a phase, this move can change their fortunes.

Darren Sammy opened up about taking the role. He said that it’ll be a challenge but he’s ready and he’s looking forward to changing West Indies cricket. He said:
“It will be a challenge, but one that I’m ready for and excited about. I’m really looking forward to the opportunity, especially looking at the players we have and the impact that I believe I can have in the dressing room. I believe I will bring the same approach as I had as a player: the passion, the desire for success, and my undying love for West Indies cricket.”
Darren Sammy’s first assignment as a coach of the West Indies will begin when the side will take on UAE in a three-match series, starting in June and then they will head to Zimbabwe to play the qualifiers.
