The Future Tour Programme or the FTPs have been designed by the global Cricket body, ICC, in order to bring context to the bilateral series. The programme has a simple objective to bring two teams against each other in home and away venues at least once in the span of 10 years.
However, the ICC has also clarified that two cricket board’s with mutual understandings and agreements can play more than one bilateral series in the specified time.
The FTPs also bridge the gap between the low raked ICC teams such as Netherlands, Ireland, and other such countries and the top eight ranked ICC teams. ICC has ensured that the aforementioned teams get enough exposure to international cricket against the best cricket sides at least once in 10 years.
