Prior to the five-match test series, India were ranked second in the ICC Test Team standings. The home side were the favorites for the series but they got a tough challenge from the visitors. The scoreline of 4-1 doesn’t actually show the competition and thrill of the series as England were the only team that made it hard for Indian players to win each game.
As mentioned by the head coach of England the India tour will be the real test of Bazball, it truly was and England arguably failed it. Despite winning the first test which laid off a strong base for them to concur with India, they let India take away well-set games in favor of England in the next three tests. The Dharamshala test was the easiest win for India in the series.
With a 4-1 series win, India are the number one Test team in the ICC Team Rankings. They have played 38 Test matches in this cycle and they have a rating of 122 with 4636 points. Following them are Australia. They have played 37 matches and have a rating of 117 with 4345 points.
England are third in the rankings. They have played 49 matches and have 111 ratings. England had never lost a test series since they acquired the new brand of cricket before their India tour and this IND vs ENG Test series went as the first series loss for them.
New Zealand are ranked fourth in the latest rankings. They are currently engaged in a two-match test series against Australia and they have lost the first match. After that loss, they are now placed 4th with a 106 rating and 2939 points.
Coming back to India, following this victory, they are currently at the top of the standings in all three forms. In the ODI rankings, they are ranked first with 121 rating points, closely followed by Australia with 118 rating points. India leads the T20Is with 266 rating points, followed by England (256). With a points percentage of 68.51, India leads the ICC World Test Championship Standings table as well.
This is a similar situation that existed between September 2023 and January 2024. Following a 1-1 tie with South Africa, India dropped to the second rank in the Test Team Rankings. Following their three-match Test series victory against Pakistan at home, Australia surpassed India to take the top spot in the Test rankings.
