(23 Jan) ICC Men’s Test Team Rankings: The much-anticipated Test series between India and England is around the corner and India are all set to host the English Team for a five-match Test series. India and England are ranked second and third respectively in the ICC Men’s Test Team Rankings and both will hustle to end the series and sit on the top of the table. Team India were the number-one-ranked team in Test a couple of weeks ago but one loss against South Africa changed the dynamics and India lost a few hard-earned rating points.
At the same time, Australia, who were ranked second, were engaged in a five-match Test series against Pakistan at home. Australia whitewashed Pakistan in the series and they gained 4 rating points after the series.
India and Australia were holding 118 rating points before the series but at the conclusion of the series, India lost the long-held Number One spot in the ICC Men’s Test Team Rankings. India are currently ranked second with 117 rating points in 32 matches and Australia have made some gains and now they are the number 1 Test side with 121 rating points in 34 matches.
England are ranked third in the ICC Test Team rankings. They have played the Ashes 2023 series in the new cycle. Winning two and losing two in the series and one being a draw, the series ended in balance. England cricket have gone south after the Ashes. They were mediocre during the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 and now they have lost ODI and T20I series against West Indies.
England Cricket Team is on a tour of India where they are scheduled to play a five-match Test series. The first of the five tests is slated to be played from 25 January to 29 January 2024 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad.
Down on the Table are South Africa. The Proteas successfully defended their foe and drew the series against India in a Two-match test series. They are currently ranked 4th with a rating of 106 in 24 matches.
Next are New Zealand and they have 95 ratings in 26 matches. Pakistan were very close to the fifth position before the start of the Australia tour but they lost all five test matches in Australia. The series loss resulted in the loss of rating points in the ICC Test Team rankings. Now, Pakistan are sixth with a rating of 89 points.
Sri Lanka, West Indies, and Bangladesh are 7th, 8th, and 9th respectively with 79, 77, and 51 ratings. Zimbabwe rank 10 with 32 rating points in 7 matches.
