It was just another day for Australia at the job but not for Netherlands. It wasn’t too hard to guess who was going to win the fixture but even they wouldn’t have expected such big numbers. This was some thrashing for Netherlands and is definitely going to haunt them for a long.
Australia won the toss and opted to bat first. They needed more than just 2 points from this match. However, they were sitting 4th in the Points table, they had their NRR in the negatives. They had to bat first anyway. Just one change for Australia: Cameron Green replaced Marcus Stoinis and Netherlands didn’t make any change.
Netherlands got an early success in the form of Mitch Marsh. Warner and Smith then collaborated for a ~140-run partnership where both played evenly but Smith(71) missed a well-cooked ton. Labschange joined Warner and then Warner reached his 100 and celebrated in iconic Pushpa style. Labuschange kept the score ticking at a good rate and added 62 runs.
It was 39th over when Glenn Maxwell entered the ground and Australia were 267 for 5. Maxwell smashed the first 50 runs in 27 balls and then he smoked the next 50 runs in just 13 balls! It was just unbelievably ridiculous. He is the one with the fastest 100 in the ODI World Cup now. Riding over his excellent innings, Australia posted a mammoth total of 399 runs.
It was never going to be easy for the men in orange. Starc made the early breakthrough, and a run-out sent back Vikramjit Singh, who appeared positive. It was one-way traffic from that point on. After Mitch Marsh claimed a couple of wickets, Zampa joined the game and added a cheap four to his two previous identical sums. After a slow start to the campaign, he has already taken 12 wickets in his past 3 games. He is really well and back, as are Australia.
