The netizens have been very vocal about how the poor scheduling from the ICC could cost big teams such as England and Australia a chance to reach the semi-finals. It was the case with England which ended up on the losing side in the game against Ireland. Credit to the Irishmen for outright defeating the English but it doesn’t overshadow the fact that the entire game was not played. From Instagram to Twitter, people have been spamming comments about poor scheduling. The England VS Australia contest got washed off, which happens to be one of the most exciting contests of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022, making the cricket community angrier.
Suggestive Changes to the ICC for Dealing with Rain:
The addition of a bonus point system can help the teams a lot. Just a pedestal or limit or rules for the bonus point need to be decided. So, for example, if India’s game against Pakistan gets washed out and they have to share points, India can play “slam-bang” cricket in the game against the Netherlands and try to win the bonus point. This will also make the games more interesting. So, pedestals can be set as, “For a win of more than 50 runs a bonus point will be awarded” or “For a win with 36 balls to spare a bonus point will be awarded” and so on.
A reserve week before the playoffs can also help. A reserve week just before the playoffs can be used to cover the matches which ended as a “No Result” or which were “Abandoned without a ball being bowled.” The ICC needs to incorporate some methods to make this a fair game. With the DLS method, it seems that our gentlemen’s game relies more on stats than the skill itself.
