In 2022, the ICC T20 World Cup will feature a number of fresh faces. The likes of Tim David and Harshal Patel will be playing in their first-ever T20 World Cup. There are also players with limited experience, like Suryakumar Yadav and Marcus Stoinis. Then come the veteran players, who have a lot of experience. It includes the likes of Martin Guptill, Virat Kohli, and Steve Smith. But there is a particular class of athletes who participated in the ICC T20 World Cup’s first edition and will do so again in 2022. Here is a look:
Rohit Sharma will play in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022:
Rohit Sharma is one name in Indian cricket who has played all the T20 World Cups. He has been a part of every T20 squad which has played the World Cup. Only MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh have been in squads nearing a number close to him. Rohit will lead India for the first time at a World Cup. One cannot simply forget that innings of Rohit against South Africa in 2007 where he scored a crucial 50. Also in the finals where had scored 30 runs in 16 balls. Rohit will now be opening the innings. This is nothing new for him. But now he is also one of the senior-most players.
Dinesh Karthik:
Dinesh Karthik is another player who played in the 2007 World Cup for the Indian team. Dinesh wasn’t a part of the playing XI but his exploits in the 2007 World Cup were via exceptional fielding. One does remember a flying Dinesh Karthik at third slip to take the catch of RP Singh’s bowling. Karthik was a part of the 2010 squad that went to the Caribbean as well. Now Karthik Is a part of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. Dinesh Karthik has a well-defined role in the Indian team. This just proves that age is just a number and if you are willing to play, your efforts will certainly pay off.
Shakib Al Hasan will play in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022:
Shakib Al Hasan will be leading the Bangla Tigers at the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. Shakib was a part of the Bangladesh squad back in 2007 as well. He has been an integral part of the team. Shakib is a legend of the game already. He has achieved so many records as an all-rounder. The ICC has always rated him very highly. He is a left arm-spin bowling all-rounder which happens to be a very rare breed.
Sean Williams:
Sean Williams is a Zimbabwe legend. He also happens to be the star and an inspiration for all the players who play from these smaller nations. Sean wasn’t a part of the playing XI in any of the games in 2007 but he was an integral part of the Zimbabwe squad that flew to South Africa. He was a part of the Zimbabwe squad that beat Australia at the 2007 World Cup. He also happens to be the captain of the Zimbabwe squad this time around.
He has many duties to fulfill. He has the pressure of captaincy and his all-rounder job to do as well. His batting alongside Sikandar Raza will be essential for Zimbabwe if they plan to go a long way in the tournament.
