India have played their first match of the tournament against Ireland where they won the one-sided match without any hiccups. Bowling first, each and every individual in the Indian bowling unit dashed through the bowling crease and got success. India bowled out Ireland under 96 runs. Rohit and Virat started the innings for India and Virat Departed early on a slower ball. Rohit Sharma scored a half-century and retired hurt while Rishabh Pant finished the thing off in fashion. India won the game by 8 wickets.
Now, Australia had their first match of the tournament today and they played it against Oman. Oman won the toss and asked Australia to bat first. Travis Head and David Warner started things for Australia but Oman struck early in the third over to remove Travis Head. Marsh struggled to bat on and Mehran Khan ended his struggle by dismissing him in the 9th over.
The very next ball, Mehran sent Glenn Maxwell back for a globe to his name, and all of a sudden, Oman looked in the command. But not for too long as Stoinis came out set and he got Warner’s backup from the other end. A couple of catches dropped in the middle that resulted in 100 runs in the 10 overs. Bilal Khan bowled a decent last over and leaked just 9 runs in it to restrict Australia to 164.
It was not an easy surface to bat on at all and 165 was truly going to be a big target for Oman. Things got even worse for them when they lost the first wicket in the first over and 3 within the powerplay under 30 runs. Australia didn’t allow Oman to build any partnership which resulted in regular wickets and low scores.
Oman’s lower middle order showed some gas but it wasn’t enough as Australia stopped them 39 runs short of the target. Marcus Stoinis was the key player for Australia in the match where he picked up 3 wickets and smashed 67*(36) runs off the bat.
