The big teams of Cricket haven’t played too much of T20I cricket in recent times due to domestic seasons in certain nations, but there has been a lot of T20I cricket going on in other parts of the world. The non-test playing nations, especially, have played numerous T20I series in most of February and ICC has updated the T20I player rankings after the month of February.
One of the main highlights of February was the West Indies tour of Australia where they played three T20I matches in the series. Australia won the T20I series 2-1 where each match saw over 400 runs in both innings combined. David Warner’s 70 in the first game, 120 by Maxwell and 63 by Rovman Powell, and 67 and 81 from Sherfane Rutherford and David Warner respectively were some exciting and match-winning innings.
Australia also played a T20I against New Zealand in February in New Zealand and they clean-swept the home side in the three-match series. Mitch Marsh played two matches of the series, scored around 100 runs, and picked up two crucial wickets. Zampa was the pick of the bowlers for Australia whereas Lockie Ferguson was the go-through bowler for New Zealand.
Following these major T20I series, many players have made big numbers in their Rankings. Glenn Phillips climbed to 11th position and his compatriot Finn Allen got a demotion of a rank and ended up being the 8th-ranked player after his mediocre Australia series.
Travis Head took a big leap of 18 spots and now holds the 19th rank and Mitch Marsh(15) also got a promotion of two ranks. Indian Star batsman Surya Kumar Yadav is still leading the ICC T20I player rankings with a handsome lead. He is at the top with 861 rating points and behind him is England’s Phill Salt with 802 rating points.
Josh Hazlewood enters the top 10 of Bowling rankings this week and he is now the 7th-ranked bowler in T20Is. Lockie Ferguson of New Zealand also climbed up 20 spots to reach 29th rank in the ICC T20I bowling rankings.
Mitch Marsh, after the commendable T20I series against West Indies and New Zealand with bat and ball, has now reached the 13th spot from the 34th rank in the ICC T20I All-rounders rankings. Shakib-Al-Hasan is still at the top and Wanindu Hasaranga is closing the distance with him for the first rank.
