The biggest carnival in cricket is just less than three months away from now. The ICC World Cup 2023 will take place in India from 5th October with the final set to be played at the largest cricket stadium Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on 19th November.
Going into the tournament, India will be one of the favourites to win the title as they will be playing at home. But they have quite a few questions to answer before heading into the World Cup. Some of their key players are out due to unruly injury and there’s still no confirmation about their availability.
India’s problem of No.4 has come to haunt them again as Shreyas Iyer has been out of action for a while and since then India has tried out many options at the position and it’s fair to say that no one has looked settled in that role.
During the recently concluded West Indies ODIs, India tried quite a few players in that position including Suryakumar Yadav. But that didn’t work out as no batter stepped in and scored runs at that position and it’s fair to say that more questions were thrown at the Indian time.

With no confirmation about Shreyas Iyer’s comeback and even if he comes back there’s no certainty if he will be at his best or not. Returning from injury, he will be needing time to settle in but there is not much time left and finding a No.4 becomes a big concern for the team
ICC World Cup 2023: Shikhar Dhawan backs Suryakumar Yadav to bat At No.4 for India in World Cup
Amid all the fuss around the No.4 spot in the Indian team, senior Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan said that team should make Suryakumar Yadav bat at that position as he has a lot of experience and has been playing international cricket for a while. He told PTI:
“I would go with Surya at four as he is an experienced player and has been playing international cricket for a while.”
It remains to be seen who will bat at No.4 for India in the ICC World Cup 2023.
