World Cup Qualifiers Final: SL vs NED Match Summary
Netherlands won the toss this time and they asked Sri Lanka to bat first. Sri Lanka got off to a good start but stumbled in the middle and despite that, they finished well enough to defeat Netherlands. Both openers got starts but as a result of Vikramjit Singh’s erratic medium speed, both of them were sent back to the hut. After that, Kusal Mendis and Sahan Arachchinge combined for 72 runs as both hitters appeared poised for a high total. Zulfiqar managed to LBW Mendis.
With Asalanka getting a hold on one side, Sri Lanka was able to begin to rebuild itself, but a bizarre phase of the innings followed in which the batting side lost four wickets for a total of 10 runs. Hasaranga and Theekshana added some runs to Sri Lanka’s late counterpunch attempt, but the Dutch were precise with their lines and didn’t allow any easy passes and were finally able to restrict Sri Lanka to 233 only.
Though Sri Lanka were poor with the bat, they were excellent with the new ball. Madushanka produced considerable swing to knock out three of the top five. Wanindu Hasaranga picked up where he left off at the opposite end, striking in his very first ball. Scott Edwards’ runout was another level of unluck and Dutch were all drowning in the sea of spin from Hasaranga. Max ODowd and Logan van Beek’s late partnership get them beyond 100, but Maheesh Theekshana returned for a second spell and finished the job, emerging as the top wicket-taker of the day.
How many times have they bowled out the opposition team between 20-25 overs? They bundled out Netherlands within 105 in just 24 overs and won the match by a massive difference of 128 runs. Nevertheless, this final defeat of the Netherlands would not make any issue with their World Cup Qualification for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. THEY ARE COMING TO INDIA!
