One of the main concerning things for Australia will be the form of David Warner in the Tests. The southpaw has failed to fire and has failed consistently in the longest format of the game. There has been many speculations about his place in the side with many raising calls to drop him.

Apart from his double century against South Africa, David Warner has failed to get going. The southpaw has failed to reach fifty in the last 18 Test innings, and also averaged just 9.50 on the last Ashes tour in 2019, where Stuart Broad gave him sleepless nights.

Warner failed miserably in the Tests against India and following that his place in the side has been under scanner. With ICC WTC Final and Ashes 2023 around the corner, a big question remains about whether he will find a place in the XI or not.

Mark Waugh however, feels that Australia will stick with David Warner for the ICC WTC Final and they should start him for the Ashes as well. Speaking to AAP, he said:

“If I am reading the tea leaves right, it sounds like they will stick with David for the World Test Championship (final) at The Oval. And if that’s the way Australia are thinking about the World Test Championship, then yes, they have to start with him for the Ashes. It would be very hard to have Usman Khawaja and Warner open the batting and then change a week later for the first Test at Edgbaston.”
