Indian captain Rohit Sharma is all set to surpass MS Dhoni to become Team India’s most successful skipper in the T20I format. The senior opener is just two wins away from achieving the feat and becoming the leader with the most wins in the shortest format of the game.

Rohit Sharma currently has 40 wins in 52 matches whereas MS Dhoni ended with 41 wins in 72 games. The senior opener is likely to surpass the keeper-batter in the ongoing three-match T20I series against Afghanistan. He kick-started the series on a high note by winning the first game.

With two games more slated to take place in the series, it is expected that Rohit Sharma as a leader will win those. A win in the second IND vs AFG game will put him on as many wins as Dhoni in the T20Is.

Rohit Sharma didn’t have a great outing in the first game, which was also his comeback in the T20Is. The opening batter bagged a two-ball duck as he got run out. However, as a skipper, he was on the top of his game as he made brilliant bowling changes.

India thumped Afghanistan by 6 wickets in the first game and took a lead of 1-0. They opened to bowl first and restricted them to a total of 158 runs with Axar Patel (2/23) with the pick of bowlers. With the bat, Shivam Dube (60*) shone as the hosts completed a comfortable victory.

Rohit Sharma would be hoping to set the stage on fire with the bat in the second game. The upcoming game will be crucial for him as a batter as he needs to prove his ability as a batter in this format. He has failed a lot of critics and would be hoping to silence them all.

Rohit Sharma is also on the verge of breaking the massive record of his teammate Virat Kohli in the T20Is. The opening batter is just 44 runs away from becoming the India captain with the most runs in the shortest format of the game.

Rohit Sharma currently has 1527 runs as skipper of the Indian team whereas Virat Kohli ended with 1570 runs. He would be hoping to achieve the feat in the last two games of the series against Afghanistan.
