Senior Indian opener Rohit Sharma is all set to captain Team India in the upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan. As per the reports in Inside Sports, it is learned that Rohit had a discussion with BCCI and both were on the same page.
The reports claimed that BCCI had a lengthy conversation with Rohit Sharma and the batter is keen to captain the team in the shortest format of the game. The skipper will also be captaining the team in the upcoming T20 World Cup, set to be played in June in the USA and the Caribbean.
It is learned that Rohit Sharma will take over the charge of the Indian T20I team from the upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan. The two teams will lock horns with each other in a three-match series, starting from 11th January to 17th January.

Rohit Sharma hasn’t played a single T20I since the end of the T20 World Cup 2022. Since then team has provided opportunities to all the young players and formed a core for the next World Cup.
There were a lot of speculations about seniors playing in the T20 World Cup but with reports suggesting about Rohit Sharma making a comeback, we might see Virat Kohli returning to the team as well for the Afghanistan series.
Since Rohit Sharma hasn’t been playing T20Is, Hardik Pandya is captaining the team in the format. The all-rounder, however, got injured recently and is his absence Suryakumar Yadav was given the charge. But he too got injured and there’s no potential captaincy candidate in the team.
IND vs AFG: India schedule for the Afghanistan series
India and will be taking on Afghanistan in the three-match T20I series. The first game will be played on 11th January at Mohali. The focus will then shift towards the second match which will be played on 14th January. The match will take place in Indore. The series will concluded in Bengaluru, which will host the last game on 17th January.
