IND vs AUS 2nd ODI: Rohit Sharma “disappointed” with India’s 10 wicket loss against Australia: Following a low-scoring exciting win in Wankhede Stadium in the IND vs AUS 1st ODI, team India suffered a drubbing at the hands of Australia in the subsequent match to neutralise the lead in the 2nd ODI in Vishakhapatnam, earlier today. The Men in Blue had a bizarre off day at business where nothing went their way but disappointment as they lost the IND vs AUS 2nd ODI by 10 wickets.
Team India skipper, Rohit Sharma was visibly not pleased with how the team performed in the match and expressed his disappointment during the post-match presentation. He reckons that the surface had no such demons and the batters didn’t apply themselves to put more than 117 runs on board.
“If you lose a game, it is just disappointing,” said Rohit Sharma in the post-match presentation. “We didn’t apply ourselves with the bat. Didn’t put enough runs on the board. It wasn’t a 117 wicket. Kept losing wickets and that didn’t allow us to get the runs we wanted.”
India lost wickets in a flurry and the innings couldn’t even get a single partnership going. India’s innings was wrapped at a meagre total of 117 runs by the Australian bowlers.
“Once we lost Shubman in the first over, myself and Virat got 30-35 runs quickly. But then I lost my wicket and we lost a couple of wickets back to back. That put us on the back foot. It’s always tough to come back from that situation,” he added.
Meanwhile, the bowlers also had a hard time troubling the Australian openers, who looked unharmed in their execution. Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head were too hot to handle for the Indian bowlers, be it pace or spin.
Australia chased down a total of 117 runs in just 11 overs with 10 wickets intact. They also created a record of chasing the target in the quickest time against India in ODIs – in 11 overs. Previously New Zealand held this record when they chased down 93 runs against India in just 14.4 overs.
IND vs AUS 2nd ODI: Rohit Sharma heaps praise on Mitchell Starc
One of the key architects of the Australian victory against India today was pacer Mitchell Starc, who looked daunting in his first spell. Starc once again threatened the Indian batters with his sharp in-swinging deliveries. He kept the batters guessing and under pressure during his first spell of six overs, where the ball was doing enough movement.
The seasoned pacer scalped the wickets of Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, KL Rahul and Mohammad Siraj to complete his ninth fifer in ODI cricket.
“Starc is a quality bowler. He has been doing it for Australia with the new ball. He kept bowling to his strength. Swung the new ball and took the odd-ball away. Kept the batters guessing,” said Rohit Sharma.
India and Australia will now square off for one final time on March 22 in Chennai to play out of the series decider. With the series tied at 1-1, the 3rd ODI in Chennai will be crucial for both sides.
