IND vs AUS 4th Test Ahmedabad Pitch: The IND vs AUS four-match test series is now nearing its end as we head closer to the IND vs AUS 4th Test at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. While the marquee test series, so far, has been decisive and has entertained the fans, it has also been amidst criticism or perhaps amidst debate over the nature of pitches used.
All three pitches used in the IND vs AUS test series so far, have been dominated by the bowlers, to be precise, the spinners. All three matches held so far, in Nagpur, Delhi and Indore have been completed in three days. While India managed to win the first two test games, Australia made a comeback in the third to avoid humiliation.
Notably, International Cricket Council (ICC) has rated the first two pitches in Nagpur and Delhi as ‘average’ while the third test surface in Indore has been rated ‘poor’. The debates over the ideal surfaces in test cricket have intensified ever since ICC rated Indore as a ‘poor’ surface.
Meanwhile, now Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium is in the limelight for the kind of surface it produces. As per the reports, the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) has prepared two surfaces for the IND vs AUS 4th Test.
With the kind of reputation Narendra Modi Stadium has, it won’t play around and prepare for a one-sided affair. So far, no concrete call has been made over the nature of the pitch. The two surfaces are being prepared by the GCA – one of red soil and another of black soil.
“We are going to go for a sporting wicket for this Test. On the central square, we have both types of pitches – black and red (soils). It will soon be decided on which type of track the Test will be played,” GCA source to Indian Express.
Some days back, the GCA source confirmed that they haven’t received any specific instructions from the BCCI or the Indian management on how the pitch should look like. He said they are preparing a normal pitch, which would keep everyone in the game.
“We haven’t received any instructions from the Indian team management and our local curators are preparing a normal track as we have always done through the season,” a state association source told PTI.
The IND vs AUS 4th test will begin on 9th March 2023 in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. With India’s position in the ICC World Test Championship Final at stake it would look to win the game and end the four-match series 3-1. Meanwhile, Australia has secured their place in the ICC WTC final 2021-23 after winning the third test in Indore.
