Marsh, Maxwell returns: Australia have finally picked a trio of key players to make their after-injury comeback to the side during the three-match ODI series in India later this month. On Thursday, Cricket Australia announced a strong 16-man squad for the ODI series, with all-rounders Glenn Maxwell and Mitch Marsh making their International return.
Along with David Warner, Ashton Agar, and Pat Cummins, who all returned to Australia this week from the Test tour, paceman Jhye Richardson will also make his long-awaited international return. In order to get a head start on the conditions for their World Cup campaign later in the year, Australia has chosen an almost full-strength squad for the ODI series in India next month.
Cummins left the team this week to attend to a medical condition that a Cricket Australia official described as a “serious family illness,” but he plans to return before the third Test the following week.

Marsh (recovering from an ankle injury) and Maxwell (recovering from a broken leg) both missed a fair amount of time after having surgery during the home summer, but they are both expected to play in the three-match tour that will take place after the current Test campaign, with ODI games in Mumbai, Vizag, and Chennai.

Speaking about the inclusion of the three players, chief selector George Bailey indicated that Maxwell, Marsh, and Richardson could be crucial players in the squad for the World Cup later this year.
“With the World Cup just over seven months away, these matches in India are an important step in our preparation,” Bailey said.
“Glenn, Mitchell, and Jhye are all important players in what we think the squad might look like come October. It would be great for Josh to be part of this series but we have taken a conservative view ahead of a very important winter in England of which he will be an integral part,” he added.
