IND vs AUS T20 World Cup Final: Former Australian batter Brad Hogg anticipates India and Australia to clash in yet another ICC tournament final as the two teams proceed to the next round of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. India and Australia have already sealed a place in the Super 8s of the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA.
Team India defeated Ireland, Pakistan and the USA in three consecutive matches to book a Super 8 spot in the tournament. Australia, on the other hand, overcame Oman, England and Namibia challenges to get themselves a ticket to the Super 8s.
While the complete details of the Super 8 fixtures are yet to be confirmed, Rohit Sharma-led Team India is set to clash with Australia, led by Mitch Marsh, on June 24 in St Lucia.
To give the India vs Australia rivalry a fresh twist, the experts and fans have begun anticipating yet another final between the two sides. Former Australian cricketer Brad Hogg expects India and Australia to overcome the Super 8 challenges and meet in the T20 World Cup 2024 Final.
“In the Super 8s, Australia and India have got Bangladesh (yet to qualify) and Afghanistan and you expect both teams to beat Afghanistan and Bangladesh and move through to the semi-finals, hopefully, that does happen. It sets it up for the possibility of Australia and India in a grand final which I’d absolutely love to happen,” said Hogg while speaking to Star Sports.
Among the teams who have qualified for the Super 8s are India, Australia, Afghanistan, South Africa and West Indies. The top teams that are likely to make their way are the USA, England, and Bangladesh.
IND vs AUS: Australia to have advantage over India
Hogg reckons Australia to be on top of India when the two sides first meet on June 24 in the Super 8 fixture due to the fact that India will have less exposure of the surfaces in the West Indies as compared to Australia.
Notably, India has played all of its fixtures so far in the T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA, which has provided help to the bowlers. The batters have faced difficulties in scoring runs, which has not let the batters find their rhythm.
“That first game between Australia and India in the super eights, the advantage would have to be to Australia because they’ve been playing in the West Indies where it’s been difficult, it’s been slow. Whereas the Indian team has been playing in New York where there’s been some seam movement, the batters haven’t been able to get their rhythm and also they’re coming from IPL where they were playing on a lot of flat wickets,” he added.
