Team India looked dominant from the start. Despite losing three early wickets in the first innings, India's innings was handled by Cheteshwar Pujara and Rishabh Pant, and the partnership of Shreyas Iyer and Cheteshwar Pujara later took the team to a respectable score. Team India flexed its tail-end strength, with Ravichandran Ashwin scoring a half-century at the end, and Kuldeep adding 40 runs to India's total of 404.

The Bangladeshi squad was unable to respond in a particularly noteworthy manner to this. Siraj struck Najmul Hussain Santo with the first ball of the innings, sending him to the pavilion.
