IND vs BAN: With the squad yet to be announced, can Surya impress enough in the Buchi Babu and Duleep trophy to make a comeback into India’s test squad

IND vs BAN: Indian selectors and the BCCI have clearly stated even the likes of the greatest of players, like KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, and the T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav, will have to feature in the domestic tournaments like the Buchi Babu or the Duleep Trophy in order to be a part of India’s squad for the Bangladesh home tour.

Suryakumar Yadav, who had made his debut for the Indian team in the longest format of the game against Australia in Nagpur last year, is eager to be back into the side for some “red-ball fun,” though the journey back would be with many informed players as obstacles.

Surya would face the obstacles in the form of his Mumbai teammate, Sarfaraz Khan, and experienced India batters like Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul. Also, Ishan Kishan, who was recently playing the Buchi Babu for Jharkhand, has acquired some amazing results alongside scoring a quick century.

Surya also admitted that after having made his debut, he was ruled out due to injury, and in the meantime, many capable players were included in the Indian team who have proved their worth, performing well for India.

“There are a lot of people who have worked really hard to earn their place, and even I want to earn that spot again,”

Suryakumar said on the sidelines of preparing for the Buchi Babu in Coimbatore

Also, India has struggled in the middle-order in the longest format of the game. They have tried players like Sarfaraz and Dhruv Jurel who have been good in the middle order, yet with Rishabh Pant now back from injury and KL Rahul also intending to make a comeback even if it means as a middle-order batter, the competition is tougher, with the selectors being in a dilemma as well.

Surya, who has been a constant in the T20I format and also India’s best-ranked T20I batter, second worldwide, was named as India’s T20 skipper after Rohit’s retirement. With this immense boost of confidence, SKY is toiling hard at the practice to better his performance in the Buchi Babu and later the Duleep Trophy, which can give him a spot in India’s red-ball team.
