IND vs ENG Test: Most Runs Scored by a Player in India vs England Test: The much-awaited and talked about India vs England test series is just around the corner. The five-match long format series is set to get underway on January 25 in Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. The preparations in the England camp have already begun while the Indian side is yet to begin.

The England squad bound for a test series in India is currently training in Abu Dhabi and has surprisingly opted to not play the practice match ahead of the series. They will arrive in India just three days before the first test in Hyderabad.

Meanwhile, the Indian squad has been intimated to regroup in Hyderabad on January 20. The Indian squad will immediately undergo a couple of net sessions and a four-day practice game in Hyderabad.

While the five-match test series will bring multiple battles in itself between the players of the two sides, one of the key battles will be between Virat Kohli and Joe Root, who will be chasing Sachin Tendulkar’s long-standing record.

The two legendary red-ball players will eye securing the top spot in the list of most runs scored by a player in the India vs England test. Currently, Sachin Tendulkar tops the chart with 2,535 runs against England in 53 innings.

Former England captain Joe Root is placed just below Sachin Tendulkar with 2526 runs in 45 innings while Virat Kohli is placed fifth in the chart with 1991 runs in 50 innings.

It is noteworthy that Joe Root has also scored the most number of centuries during the India vs England test series over the years. The English batter has nine tons to his name against India, which is two more than Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Alastair Cook and four more than Virat Kohli.

During the last England tour of India in 2021, Joe Root remained the pick of the batters as he topped the most runs chart in the four-match test series. Root muscled 368 runs in eight innings at an average of 46.00 which included a double-century innings of 218 runs. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli could only score 172 runs in six innings across 4 test matches at a modest average of 28.67.

IND vs ENG Test: Other Records for Virat Kohli

In additional records, Virat Kohli will aim to complete 2000 runs against England in test matches. The batter is just 9 runs short of completing the milestone. Sachin Tendulkar and Sunil Gavaskar are the only two Indian batters to score more than 2000 runs against England in test matches so far. Virat Kohli would become the third Indian batter to do so.

The 35-year-old batter is also 544 runs shy of becoming India’s highest run-getter against England in test format. Sachin Tendulkar, currently, holds the crown with 2535 runs against England.

Kohli will also eye to complete 9000 runs in his test career. He is just 152 runs away from achieving the milestone of 9000 test runs.
