Bumrah has led an Indian team before, most recently in the lone Test game played in England last summer. Bumrah has been out since September 2022 due to a back injury, when he last played for the national team. The 29-year-old’s physical condition will be essential as India prepares for the ODI World Cup, which will get underway in October.
The right-arm pacer suffered a similar problem during the India tour of England in July 2022, which cost him two months of playing time. Bumrah missed the T20 World Cup in Australia due to back problems, and since then, he hasn’t participated in a competitive cricket match, including the World Test Championship Final last month and the IPL 2023.
India tour of Ireland 2023 consists of 3 T20Is and India’s regular T20I skipper Hardik Pandya has been rested from the captaincy for nearing Asia Cup and World Cup.
