IND vs NZ: Team India’s performance in the World Cup Semi-Finals over the years, Results: The cricket fever has reached its peak as just a few hours remain for the all-important first knockout fixture of the ongoing World Cup 2023. The event, which started on October 5, is now at its final stages and in the next couple of days, the cricket world shall witness a rise of the World champions.
India and New Zealand are set to lock horns in the first semi-final of the World Cup 2023. The fixture will be held at the Wankhede Stadium on November 15, starting at 2:00 PM.
The hosts, India, are having a dream run in the tournament, having won all of their league-stage fixtures. The Men in Blue are the only team that has remained undefeated so far in the ODI World Cup 2023. Their sublime show in the league stages ensured a top-of-the-table finish for them.
On the other side, New Zealand had a bittersweet time so far in the showpiece event. They began their World Cup 2023 campaign on a strong note, however, what followed next was not a memorable sight for them. They kicked off their run with four victories on the bounce, but soon they slipped to four consecutive defeats, before eventually winning the ninth fixture and making it to the semi-finals, the last moment.
The two aforementioned teams faced each other in the 2019 World Cup semi-final at Manchester. The IND vs NZ fixture, back then, spanned across two days, due to multiple rain interruptions before eventually making the Kiwis the winner of the contest by 18 runs. Team India was subsequently shown exit door from the 2019 World Cup, after performing so well in the league stages.
India has qualified for the World Cup semi-finals for the fourth consecutive time. The Men in Blue were in the top 4 in 2011, 2015 and 2019 editions of the World Cups.
Notably, India has lost both of its last two semi-final appearances in 2015 and 2019. Their loss during the 2015 World Cup semi-final came against Australia in Sydney, while New Zealand got better of India in the 2019 Semi-Final held at Manchester.
If we talk about India’s overall performance in the World Cup semi-finals over the years, it’s a bit embarrassing and concerning. In seven semi-final appearances, only three have gone India’s way, and the other four have resulted in a loss.
