IND vs NZ: What if World Cup 2023 Semi-Finals is washed out due to RAIN, Reserve Day Details: With the end of the ICC World Cup 2023 league stage, we are now just a couple of nights away from knockout fixtures. The 39-day tedious league process ended with India registering a thumping win over the Netherlands on November 12 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. As things stand, India, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand have qualified for the World Cup 2023 semi-final.

The much-awaited knockout stage (Semi-Finals and Final) is scheduled to begin on November 15. The top four teams of the World Cup 2023 points table will partake in the upcoming fixtures. The table toppers will meet the fourth-ranked team in semi-final 1 while the second semi-final will be held between the second and third-ranked teams in the points table.

The winner of the two semi-finals will meet to play out the summit clash (Final) of the World Cup 2023.

The first semi-final will be held between India and New Zealand (Rank 1 vs 4) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on November 15 while the second semi-final will be held between South Africa and Australia (Rank 2 vs 3) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on November 16.

The Final of the World Cup 2023 is set to be held at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 19. The fixture will be between India/New Zealand and South Africa/Australia.

Ahead of the knockout clashes, let’s take a look at the situation if the World Cup 2023 Semi-Finals is washed out due to rain. What are the playing conditions and all the details around Reserve Day?

IND vs NZ: What if World Cup 2023 Semi-Final is washed out

The ICC has put in place the provisions for reserve day for both semi-finals of the World Cup 2023. The IND vs NZ semi-final scheduled on November 15 will have a reserve day on November 16. Similarly, the reserve day for the South Africa vs Australia clash on November 16 will be on November 17.

The match officials will try out all the best possible practices to complete the semi-final fixtures on their scheduled day even if there are a few interruptions due to rain. As per the rules laid down, 120 minutes extra time will be allowed for the match in case there are unavoidable circumstances such as light rain for a short period.

If any of the semi-finals sees a delay of more than 2 hours, then the officials will have the right to reduce the overs per side accordingly. For every five minutes lost, after 2 hours, an over will be reduced.

In the layman’s language, if there is a rain interruption of 120 minutes (or 2 hours) then the game will be completed on the same day without a single over lost (a complete 100 over match will be held). However, if the delay exceeds 120 minutes then the overs will be cut short.

In case a semi-final fixture couldn’t be completed despite using the DLS method to reduce overs and revise the target, then the reserve day will come into play. The remaining part of the contest will be held on the reserve day.

The game will start afresh on the reserve day of the semi-final if not a single delivery is possible on the scheduled day.

IND vs NZ: What if Semi-Finals Reserve Day is also washed out

In case the semi-final fixture doesn’t produce a result even on the reserve day, despite using the Duckworth Lewis Stern (DLS) method, then the fixture will be termed “no result.” The team ranking higher on the points table will proceed to the final. In the India vs New Zealand case, India will advance to the final. Likewise, South Africa will proceed further if South Africa vs Australia is also washed out due to rain on reserve day. India and South Africa will play out the Final on November 19 in Ahmedabad.

The playing conditions for the reserve day will be the same as those in the semi-final. An extension of two hours will be provided to complete the game if there are a couple of rain interruptions. After 2 2-hour delay, for every five minutes lost, an over will be reduced.
