IND vs PAK Matches: In a significant push for the resumption of IND vs PAK games, Cricket Australia (CA) has come up with its interest in hosting the India vs Pakistan bilateral series. The report indicated that the Aussie Cricket Board, subject to India and Pakistan’s agreement on the idea, is looking to bring the two rivals against each other in the future.
Notably, India and Pakistan’s engagement in the cricket field is just restricted to the ICC-sponsored tournaments and the Asia Cup. The two sides haven’t squared off in a bilateral setup since 2012-13 due to turmoil in the political relations between the two.
In their commitment to bring compelling action from the field of cricket with India and Pakistan taking on each other, Peter Roach, Cricket Australia’s Cricket Operation Manager, highlighted that the board is exploring the option and is keen on such ideas.
Roach hinted at having a tri-series featuring Australia along with India and Pakistan. He said, “We haven’t got a tri-series in the FTP. Going forward we’re always interested in opportunities for matches and contests that will engage our fans. It’s fair to say every country in the world would love to see India and Pakistan compete in their country.”
Nicky Hockley, CA’s chief executive, reaffirmed their desire to bring India and Pakistan under the MCG’s hood for the bilateral engagement.
IND vs PAK Matches at MCG
“I think anyone that was here for the India-Pakistan game at the MCG, it will go down as one of the most memorable occasions, not just sporting occasions, that I’ve ever been to,” Nicky Hockley said. “So people want to see that contest. We would love to host that if the opportunity arose. If we can play a role, we’d love to play a role.
“We’re so excited to host Pakistan. We’re so excited to host India. If we can help, that’s great. But I think in many ways, that’s a bilateral series. It’s really for others to make that happen.”
It’s noteworthy that Australia will host Pakistan and India later this year for different engagements. While Pakistan will tour Australia for three ODIs and as many T20Is in November, India will have a five-match Test assignment against Australia, starting November 22, 2024.
It’s believed that Cricket Australia is likely to pitch a bilateral series between India and Pakistan or a specific tri-series between the three teams when India and Pakistan both tour Australia in the coming November.
However, the development is subject to BCCI’s agreement to such proposals. Moreover, for such key ideas to be executed with full perfection, there will be massive engagement of the governments of the two countries.
New Delhi’s stance on the resumption of the IND vs PAK matches or bilateral series has been unwavering. Over the years the Indian government has called out Pakistan’s government for sponsoring cross-border terrorism.
It remains to be seen if the IND vs PAK matches or bilateral series proposal works out or not and if it proceeds what are the technicalities of it.
