The IND vs SL game in the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup 2023 will take place on Tuesday (12th September) in Colombo. However, just ahead of the game, the Rohit Sharma-led side has suffered a blow as Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the match as per the reports in Cricbuzz.
Shreyas Iyer suffered a back spasm ahead of the Super Four game against Pakistan and the Indian team made a last-minute change, bringing in KL Rahul in place of Iyer. It was expected that a two-day rest would be enough for the KKR captain to get fit.
But as it turned out, Shreyas Iyer has been deemed unfit and will miss the IND vs SL game. This might have raised quite a few eyebrows as he recently recovered from a back injury and made a comeback into the Indian team during the first game of the Asia Cup 2023 against Sri Lanka.
Shreyas Iyer played the first game against Pakistan and looked good to the eyes. He played crisp shots but unfortunately couldn’t convert his start. He scored 14 runs and then also took the field in the game against Nepal. But felt discomfort in his back ahead of the game against Pakistan.
This will be a huge concern for the Indian team, especially with the ICC World Cup 2023 around the corner. Shreyas Iyer has been one of the most important batters for India in the ODI format of late. But in his absence, KL Rahul took his chances and smashed a staggering century against Pakistan.
