IND vs SL: Rishabh Pant rested due to knee injury, not dropped from Sri Lanka series: Reports: Indian wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant has always been in the headlines because of varied reasons. While most of the time it’s his heroic performances or jolly on-field behaviour that pulls him closer to the limelight, this time the situation is a bit different for the 25-year-old.
Rishabh’s form in white-ball cricket has been on a decline for the past few months which is a major concern. In 25 T20I games in 2022, Pant has only managed to score 364 runs at an average strike rate of 132.84. Moreover, his batting show in the ODIs has also been dull this year.
Owing to his mediocre performances in the last couple of months, Pant was under scrutiny and his place in the white ball squad for the home series against Sri Lanka was under serious threat. Several questions were raised by the experts and fans as to how long the BCCI would drag Pant into the white-ball teams despite him performing poorly.
Meanwhile, in the recently announced white-ball squads against Sri Lanka, the BCCI has dropped Rishabh Pant from both T20Is and ODIs. The glovesman will not be taking part in the upcoming Sri Lanks series, which starts on January 3.
While the first impressions of the squad were Rishabh Pant has been dropped from the team owing to his underwhelming performances, however, the reports suggest that Pant has injury concerns due to which he has been rested from the upcoming series.
Reportedly, the 25-year-old cricketer has a knee injury which he has been carrying for quite a bit and now needs immediate medical attention. He will head to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore and will spend at least 15 days there.
If the reports are to be believed, although Pant isn’t part of the upcoming white-ball squads, he will make a comeback in the forthcoming series against New Zealand.
